OK, so I have a lot of plans for what I'd like to do here, so I want feedback from you as to what you think I should focus on here first. Here's what I want to do, you guys tell me what order you think I should do it in.

  • Upgrade the Tutorials mod to IP.Board 3.0
  • Upgrade some other existing mod to IP.Board 3.0 (specify which, please)
  • Start converting the CSC mod to IP.Board 3.0
  • Work on the Joomla home page to make it more integrated with the site
  • Create an area here for sale of all of my existing commercial mods
One thing I've been working on this week has been updating a component I created for myself back at Invision Modding where I tracked all of my sales. I have that here now on this site, with all old sale data intact, so I still have a record of who bought what. But currently, I'm still using Invision Modding's Store for my own sales. Since that is no longer my site, I would like to move stuff here for my sales. But I don't want to just take the Store mod and convert it for IP.Board 3.0, since it already was really only ever designed for IP.Board 2.1, and was hacked to work on 2.3 by me, I don't want to hack it even further. Ultimately, the CSC will fill this role, but it will be a while before it is ready. So my thought there is that I should simply set up sale topics with a PayPal button in them, similar to what the other modders at Invision Modding did.

Anway, since what I do with IP.Board is for you guys, please tell me how you'd like me to proceed. What is most important to you?

Difficult choices :)

Agree regarding the Store mod, I would agree it's not worth the effort of trying to convert it to 3.0, as you say it was originally a 2.1.x mod updated to function on 2.3.x, the time you spent doing that would be better spent on the CSC.

For the moment, I'd suggest you simply have the usual Paypal button on your commercial mods, this can be changed later when the CSC is ready. There's nothing wrong with doing it that way, and its clear and works well enough :)

Regarding the order of tasks to do, ultimately its going to come down to personal preference. My suggestions are in this order however...

  • Create an area here for sale of all of my existing commercial mods (you only need a "mods for sale" forum till the CSC is ready)
  • Work on the Joomla home page to make it more integrated with the site (Although the final design and integration can wait a while, I do think a little bit of change (even just to the text) would be a high priority as its at Joomla default still, this can always be re-visited later. It's not a high priority once the actual text has been changed I think)
  • Upgrade the Tutorials mod to IP.Board 3.0 (this is going to be asked for a lot I'd expect, although there is the "breathing space" of a couple of RC releases of 3.0 before it needs to be 100% ready)
  • Upgrade some other existing mod to IP.Board 3.0 (I think this would be personal preference regarding which, depending on which has the most sales (commercial mods) or the most popular (free mods) , although I would suggest getting a couple of the tiny ones out if possible (Random example: Remove Topic Links). I'd guess its best to go with the most popular ones first (as these will be asked about more) then work down from most popular.
  • Start converting the CSC mod to IP.Board 3.0 (As its going to be needed, however see my one above ^^^ , otherwise I would of put this above the "Upgrade other mods")

I will strong suggest to update the [INVM22] Site maps Generator from CheetahShrk. This mod has limitation because is a old mod made for IPB 2.1. For example does not ping to spiders and is only made for Google and not also for Yahoo, MSN and Ask.

The missing of a good site-map generator is a big seo limitation, google himself request to have a site map.

:)

I can't update mods that other folks created without their permission. When I mentioned updating other mods not listed, I meant my mods.

Yes, of course, I am sorry but I did not explain myself. :(

This mod need to be coded from the scratch not only for the copyright issue bat also because is made for IPB 2.1 and only for google. ;)

At first I would ask what is CSC?
And regards the order of the stuff, I would say that you start upgrading the most common mods, then working on the CSC (though I don't know what this is, it sounds interesting :P).

CSC stands for Client Service Center, it is intended to be an all-in-one customer service module for IP.Board. It is a mod that has a 'core' component that allows you to manage your customer data, and then plugins for things like a ticket system or a store.

I may suggest you to add pictures or samples of your mods, as it may attract more people.

It's worth visiting Joomla again yes. Personally (just my opinion) at this stage I would not be that concerned if there are still problems with Converge, I'd start by just tidying up and changing the text so its related to this site, then it can be re-visted later (to perhaps fix Converge and / or do a bit more design skinning)

I may suggest you to add pictures or samples of your mods, as it may attract more people.

That's quite a good idea. A screenshot or two where its possible (added to your initial post ideally) and relevant would help as people are bound to ask for them. I probably have some lying around actually if needed (certainly for Random Gallery Images at least)

:)

Hey Michael nice job so far, I can totally feel you on the whole IM and it slowing you down on what you want.. Good for you!

I would recommend converting your tutorials module over to IPB 3; it might make it a lil easier for you as well as for anyone looking thru your site..
Also maybe just edit the content of your CMS to match/fit your forum's news and such. In reference to that maybe you can get some people to just handle your websites content to basically match the forums(an idea)..

Other than that just do not overload yourself bro ;)

I know one thing I'll need to do with the home page is I need to re-skin a lot of it. It was skinned using the structure of IP.Board 3.0 Beta 5, and we're at RC1 now. Maybe I'll wait for the final release of IP.Board 3.0 first, though.

Yeah, I think so, I really just want to maybe show off a bit about what IP.Board can do with its Joomla integration.

Michael,
As you know I use the "Users Awaiting Validation" mod (and have since you first made it) so hopefully you will make a hook for it for 3.0 and I sure would like to see a good "Contact" form hook also using the re-captcha similar to the one OV23 (Chelsove) did before he disappeared and someone else modified (escapes me right now who that was). Beyond me why IPS never includes a contact form in their software. Visitors to a site that are not members (or even members) may have a want/need to contact an administrator and have no idea how to do that. Go to any commercial site and there is always a "Contact Us" link somewhere on the page.

Mike

I would like to have two mods updated :-

1) Your Auto DB Backup mod - fully functional ( no limitations which were there in the previous 2.3x version).

2) Ultimate referrals mod - again fully functional ( This can be private one to one also if you prefer that way).

It would be great if I could make an auto DB backup mod that wouldn't have any limits to it, but it's out of my control. It takes time to execute all of the work in creating a backup, typically more time than the browser will keep trying to reach the page as the task is running. If you want automated backups, you're going to want to do them through a cron job.

As far as Ultimate Referrals, that was a mod that Mark with IPS was now in charge of. I had thought he was turning that over to someone else but now can't find if that was true or not. I'll ask him what the status of that is.
