I wonder, has anyone managed to actually get the .psd plugin to work in paint.net ?

I've tried a couple of versions and despite following the instructions and trying a few other things, it does not want to know. I had this problem about a year ago and gave up then although I do hear others have managed it.

It should be straightforward, simply upload one file and you are done. , however it does not want to work for me it still thinks .psd's are an unsupported file type. The only thing I can see amiss is the 'view plugin loading errors' on the menu is greyed out, although that would be errors it does suggest its not attempting to load any.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I could download the 30 day trial of photoshop but that's just a trial and too much money for me when paint.net does everything I need apart from being able to (hopefully, I have no idea how really) build an image out of a .psd.

I have gotten it to work, however I don't think the results are as good as what you get in Photoshop, even if saved from Photoshop with the "maximize compatibility" ticked.

If you used anything but the most basic blending modes in PS they will be lost when in loaded into Paint.Net. In my opinion it isn't worth installing this plug-in.

Edit: Here is my sig psd run through Paint.net.

Ah I see. I'm on a tight budget I cannot stretch to a paid paint package at the moment, unfortunately.

I think Gimp will do them but it kind of looks like a Windows app that's exploded, given its floating appearance. I know its a 'nix port.

Bearing in mind, I don't really know how to use a psd file anyway. I know its just layers.

I just wanted to try to make a few things out of some psd logos, mainly changing the text.

I have no trouble using the psd plugin in Paint.net. I only use it to modify the IPB default logo. At least I didn't a week or two ago. I will go and try again. I am using Paint.net 3.5.8 and the plugin dated Dec 29th.

I am able to open the IPB logo and see all 8 layers.

What else do you want me to try?

Yes the layers are all there. However you you won't have the full effect of many of the layer customizations. For example if you had a text layer (like my example in my first post) with Blending Options added a great deal of the effect is lost. As in my example above, the drop shadow is there barely, and the Bevel & Emboss is nearly absent.

Look at the sig I ran through Paint.Net next to the normal sig, and you can easily see how it look flat.

On the other hand if you don't do much with layer blending options it probably won't make much difference.

I see what you mean.

However I just want to open a .psd file and then convert it so I can use it. No graphics are permitted on my board especially in sigs. I just use the plugin to change the logo for my board. That is, once for default skin and the second time for cleancut.

I'll have another go when I get a bit of time, although it just did not want to accept the fact there was a plugin present.

If ya cant get it to work let me know. i have the free extended version of photoshop. portable. they arent hard to find. the problem with using the psd extensions in other programs is that alot of psd's you try to open, the programs wont recognize the layers. so when the image opens it looks nothing like the original. I use paint.net, corel photoimpact x3, and photoshop. just depends on what i am doing.
