File Name: Suspected Ban Evaders
File Submitter: Michael
File Submitted: 26 Jul 2010
File Category: Invision Focus Products

Searches for all IP addresses used by Banned members on your site, either during their registration or by posting, and compares them with IP addresses used by other members during registration or posting. The results of this tool can indicate which members have been Banned but then later returned under a new account.

It should be noted that certain IP.Board modules can create topics on your system that are associated with a Banned member, but are posted using a staff IP address. In addition, topics posted by RSS feeds can be associated with Banned member addresses as well. Because of this, this mod contains settings where you can specify certain member IDs and IP addresses are to be considered 'safe' and won't be checked as being a suspected ban evader.

This mod is only viewed in the ACP, not in a public area.

Thanks, Ringer, for giving me a perfect opportunity to get some nice screenshots of this. :)

Here's what it looks like on the main page, the settings for the app:

Sorry to be such a numpty, but how are these delivered. I've paid and cant see a DL link anywhere so Im presume it's email sometime after purchase when you've seen the payment notification? I've read the terms but couldnt see where it said how they are delivered xD.

You'll receive a PM notification once the allotted time has passed. (unless Michael has changed the way he delivers recently)

(PS: It's never good to post your email address due to spam bots)

They get delivered via PM when I sign on and see that they've been purchased. Yours has been sent to you. :)

Hi Michael, Tried running on our board and the sql times out, I suspect due to the size of the database, I have the SQL trapped in a textedit file.

Not sure it will run on our system without perhaps putting the ips into a temp table?

I can PM you the file if it helps

Yeah, send me the file via PM here, or email it to me at michael.mccune@gmail.com if you can't attach it to a PM. I suspect it's going to be just like a timeout issue or something, but if it's something else I may be able to fix it easier.

I've rewritten this application so that the searching is done in discrete parts and then redirected to the new part. You can now set how many items are looked at during each iteration of this in order to try and reduce resource usage problems. Note that this is not a perfect solution, extremely large sites with lots of banned members who have made lots of posts will likely never be able to use a method like this to find banned members, it is simply too much data for this to comb through without having the database time out. But this is a huge improvement over previous versions as far as resource usage is concerned.

Bought and installed this morning m8, one thing I have a slight problem with is that I use auto welcome mod which is obviously being picked up as false positives because it generates the posts on my account but of course they are seen as "related" to other member accounts, basically it has picked up EVERY member

I had around 90 pages of "suspect" members which i've been slowly going thro, checking manually and marking as safe
Attached File  ban.png   34.9K   8 downloads

Is there a way to stop it picking up those posts auto generated ? and would it be possible to add in a way to select multiple results to mark safe in bulk ?
Having to do these all manually has kind of negated the purpose of having the mod for me, otherwise it is a nice mod but I think these need addressed to improve it further.

John :)

Are all of these posts that the other mod makes made by the same member or the same IP address? You can flag either one of those as safe and this app will skip it.

All I can suggest is to have me look at your site directly, I can't imagine why these are coming up that way.

This app still works fine for IP.Board 3.4, nothing was changed except the documentation indicating its new compatibility.
