Have you purchased a copy of the Tutorials app? The 'contributor' icon here means I have submitted articles to the Tutorials system on this site. You kind of have to have the application it links to in order for it to show anything.

Some forums add a new member group called "contributor". Normal members are then promoted to the contributor rank after a certain number of posts.

The other image that shows moderators over administrators is, I believe, the secondary group indicator.
