I have no idea if this is possible but as I was starting to do a exchange server tutorial (which I messed up and lost grr my fault) I was thinking the ability to export to a fle for sharing or importing to tutorial on another site could be useful at times.
maybe ability to export to (print to function basically) doc pdf or xml (for import) maybe?
I know we can use the IP print function to then print to doc/pdf but not sure if printing to xml would work well enough to then allow importation to another tutorial site. for example I get off my butt and get the exchange server one done, due to its complexities it will be large and multi paged, then could export it so I could import it here. due to multi page I am not sure a straight copy-paste would work right.
any thoughts?

I have also been thinking about this, as some of our tutorials are actually newsletters so we are looking at
- export/save as pdf (formatted to remove some css elements, just not as harsh as how IPS strip the doc before printing)
- save and email (save as pdf or html and bulk email, using IPS bulk email system/permissions)
- view as pdf (same as save but pops up a nice readable page)
some links to info and online (free converters)
http://pdf-ace.com/s...pdf-button.html (created pdf is a bit fuzzy, not so good)
http://pdfcrowd.com/save-to-pdf/ (better quality)
http://labnol.blogsp...le-printer.html (stripping the doc for printing)
http://www.pdfonline...b2pdf/index.asp (server is down a lot)
note, most online converters view the document as a guest
would be nice to see this implemented as either part of a tutorials update, or maybe as a hook to add to the share buttons?
regards
Richard

I'm not going to be adding a PDF exporter, if you want an article in PDF format then you should either push IPS to add it into their share media icons or use a browser extension that lets you save a page as a PDF; Adobe installs that by default (at least they used to).
What I may implement is a way to save an article as an XML, which can then be imported into a different site, but there is a lot to consider for that. Who would the author be on the imported article? Which category would it go in? How would I handle attachments? etc. This would be a major addition to the application if I can make it work, not something that can be slipped in to a point release.

was thinking about this the other day, and I cannot see a good way to handle any attachments and think those would have to be excluded. the chance of introducing a security issue onto someone elses system alone really makes that an issue.
I had been wondering about csv as it could then also be impoted into excel or similar but for straight import purposes alone xml would be easier if I understand things correctly.
whn exported could a line at top with original author name and website be added and when imported that would then show or is that difficult? doesn'tt really get around someone wanting to not credit another person but its a try at least.
on the category for import I am not sure, maybe have the base installer create a "imported" category, have export use that in xml, and then items could be moved or reclassified after that?
never thought about that TBH.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of other things like attachments that would make this suggestion not possible.
Yeah, I don't see any way I can make this work properly, there's too much that can vary from one install to the next that would make this not work.
