fresh install of 1.4.2, all prior files deleted.
I have a category on Board called Tutorials Topics, in that category are 2 forums called Forum Related Tutorials and once called Tech and Related Tutorials.
In the main setting I have Support Topic Options pointing to the Tutorials Topics category.
For my Forum Related Tutorials category I have its support topic pointing to the Forum Related Tutorials forum.
it won't generate topics, however is I point the Support Topic Options directly to Forum Related Tutorials it will, meaning all tutorials will go to one forum.
The settings in the category itself are not getting honored, I am pretty sure this worked in 1.4.1.
I am going to uninstall, install 1.4.1, test that then upgrade I think.

same with 1.4.1, cannot generate topic in forum category says to. can only generate topic where the main settings say to.
I know this worked before, wonder if I have older 1.4.0 fle here on laptop LOL

They're working fine on this site and on my development board. The code for this in this application likely has not changed, if you're not seeing this working now it's probably due to IP.Board changes.
ip.content is only update I can think of, but you're running that same version I think.
you have copy of 1.4.0 around?
I want to try something on test board.
been a bit since I did one that would have generated a topic so I cannot nail down timeframes when it would have stopped working for me.

the per category option was not "taking" for some reason.
by that I mean choosing it in acp, on 2 different physical servers, was not what was listed the next time I opened the settings. instead of the choice being on per category it was sitting on one of the forums approx 1/2 down list.
thought it may have been browser issue so on the test board (where I just installed 1.4.2 for first time and nothing else installed I used different pc and IE9.
same thing.
I then ran repair table in phpmyadmin on both servers, no change.
so I ran optimize on both and then the settings took.
now it works just like it always has.
thats darn odd, especally since the 2 servers are 1k miles apart and in no way interconnected LOL
on the live board I could see maybe an errant db issue, the test board is just plain with no hooks.
but if anyone ever notices this same issue maybe this will help them.
